Farm Shop Apple Paradise Wittlaer…
...in Düsseldorf-Wittlaer, the first of what are now three of our farm shops opened in 1987 at the idyllic Heidberg. Under the name “Apple Paradise,” Rudolf Schumacher sold products from Tönisvorst (then called “Obstgut Tackheide II”), making the first attempt at direct marketing his own produce.
A former orchard meadow with tall trees was replanted with around 5,000 apple trees, and by autumn 1987, sales began out of a small garage – with just three large apple crates.
At first, sales were only open during the harvest season. By adding products such as strawberries and asparagus from friendly farmers – putting the idea of “From the region – for the region” into practice – Apple Paradise soon became open all year round.
